2017 will see an increased bus service between Smithers and Telkwa

The town of Smithers will be extending the bus service between Telkwa from leaving before 5 PM extended to 6 PM next year.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the community has been sending emails and letters to the town for the increased service.

“And we’ve heard from residents that the system might get more use if it was extended into the evening, certainly for kids doing after school activities, for people who’s work might go after 5:30. We think having it will be a real asset,” says Bachrach.

The service would cost an estimated $6,551 shared between Smithers, Telkwa and BC Transit. Smithers will look to pay $5,500 of that.

“So it’s something we brought to the transit committee on behalf of the community,” says Bachrach.

From there, Smithers voted on the memorandum of understanding that will be signed to have the service available sometime in 2017.
