Lake Kathlyn School may have a glimmer of hope for staying open if it’s eligible for a provincial fund, with School district 54 discussing the possibility at tonight’s meeting.

Schools with extreme enrollment decline and infrastructure problems won’t get in on the province’s 2.5 million it plans to keep 9 schools open as a part of the Rural Education Enhancement Fund. Money saved on closing the school will be what the province doles out.

The school district is unsure if Lake Kathlyn’s enrollment decline will make it ineligible for funding to stay open, or if any infrastructure problems come into play

School District 54 will also be finalizing their budget at tonight’s meeting at 7.
