No credible threat found following investigation at Burns Lake school

Police and school officials in Burns Lake said a threat directed at Lakes District Secondary School is not credible.

School District 91 (SD91) said Safer Schools Together and the RCMP were informed after the rumours started circulating.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the RCMP and Safer Schools Together and for their immediate support,” the school district said.

It added an RCMP presence was at the secondary school on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution and to continue its investigation.

A previously planned lockdown drill was also rescheduled.

“We would like to reassure you that children’s safety is our biggest priority,” said SD91.

“We work very closely with our partners to ensure the safety of Nechako Lakes School District students and staff.”

The first day back to class in SD91 was Tuesday.
