The Prince George RCMP are seeking witnesses to yesterday’s (Monday) fatal collision south of the city.

Police say at 5:00 p.m., officers were called to the collision on Highway 97 at Woodpecker Landing, where initial reports indicated that a semi‑truck had jackknifed and collided with a pickup truck.

The passenger of the pickup truck, a 69‑year‑old woman from Quesnel, was declared deceased at the scene, with the driver, a 77‑year‑old man from Quesnel, being transported to hospital with injuries.

The semi‑truck driver, a 44‑year‑old man from Abbotsford, was not injured.

Mounties say the investigation is ongoing, and speed and weather are believed to have been contributing factors in the collision.

“We continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam video from the area, to come forward. The public’s assistance will be crucial in this investigation,” said Corporal Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson.

“With changing road conditions, drivers are urged to slow down and adjust their driving to the conditions to help prevent further collisions.”

Anyone who witnessed the events leading up to the incident is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250‑561‑3300.
