Smithers RCMP saw an uptick in reports of crashes on Monday as slushy and slippery conditions affected roads around the community.
“This morning we’ve responded to about three collisions, particularly west of town between Smithers and Terrace, and the roads are really slippery and slick,” said Constable Jocelyn Foidart, Media Relations Officer.
Police are asking drivers to travel slowly and be prepared, particularly around corners and as the weather freezes into the evening.
Foidart said an increase in crashes with the first snowfall of the season is expected and that there have been no resulting injuries so far.
“It’s the first slippery dump of snow this year. It’s time to slow down and adjust driving conditions for the winter,” Foidart said.
