Smithers Terry Fox Run raises a record-breaking $95,000

It was a historic Terry Fox Run in Smithers.

Yesterday (Sunday), a record breaking 95-thousand dollars was raised in support of cancer research.

While over 100 participants raised just shy of five grand, organizer Logan Flint stated a 90-thousand dollar contribution from the estate of long-time resident Tom Mesich made it all the more memorable.

“Tom has been in the community for many, many years and has done a lot within the community with very little recognition. To have this come through in honour of him was just massive.”

“When I first heard about it (the donation) it was humbling. We are honoured to be receiving this amount at the event and to have the entire estate to be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation is quite honouring.”

Next year’s run is slated for September 19th, 2027.
