Visible smoke possible from two upcoming Kispiox cultural burns

Two cultural burns are being planned by the Gitxsan in the Kispiox area which may occur until May 13.

Both are happening with support from the BC Wildfire Service and cause smoke to be visible in the Kispiox Area and from Highway 16.

One burn will occur at the Upper Kispiox River Recreation site with the other along Kuldo Forest Service Road.

Both are between 20 and 30 kilometres northwest of Kispiox and would cover about six hectares each.

Exact burn times depend on weather and site conditions.

The purpose is to maintain and enhance wildlife habitat, and increase cultural food and medicinal plant productivity.
