Bulkley Valley and Lakes District Weather Update, June 1st

One thing we can be thankful for in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District as of late, is the fact we haven’t had to do much watering of our gardens or lawns, thanks to all this precipitation we’ve had.

Heading into the month of June though, residents are wondering when the warmer temperatures and sunshine may return.

Here’s Environment Canada Meteorologist, Lisa Erven, with a bit of a silver lining to all this rain.

“Although it seems like there has been a ton of rain over the last little bit, our weather stations in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes district have only gathered around 5-10 mm of rain over the last couple days. Looking ahead, we’ve got a weak system moving into the region today (Friday, June 1st) so expect light, scattered showers throughout most of Friday. As we get into Saturday (June 2nd), a little bit of instability remains and there may be a chance for rain, however, that is very unlikely as we’re only predicting a 10-20 % chance of precipitation through the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.”

Erven says although we may catch a bit of a break from the rain Saturday, she doesn’t expect it to last too long.

“We’re moving into a bit of a cooler pattern so residents will have to hang tight on sunshine and warmer temperatures. This is going to open up the entire province to cooler temperatures and with that, a series of showers heading into next weekend.”

Erven says although floods have been the topic of conversation lately, she doesn’t see the amount of rain that we will receive as any threat to rising water levels.
