HSS, SSS Girls Rugby headed to Provincials

Both Houston and Smithers Secondary girls 15’s are headed South for a shot at the Provincial title.

The two teams will play in different divisions: Houston in AA and Smithers in Tier 2, meaning there could be two champions in the Bulkley Valley.

Both teams are going up against some of the best programs in BC, and Houston head coach Scott Jackson has had to adapt to the competition.

“We’re strong defensively, I don’t expect that they’re going to pile points up on us, but we’ve struggled to score points this year. All of our games have been tight, low scoring games so we’ve been practising a few wrinkles offensively and we’ll see if we can surprise them a little bit,” he says.

The Provincial champions will be the team that wins all 3 games of their respective 8-team tournaments.

Houston is ranked 6th and will begin play against 3rd-ranked Lake City of Williams Lake

Smithers is ranked 4th and will play 5th-ranked Robert Bateman of Abbotsford in the first round.

For Smithers’ tournament schedule: TIER 2 Revised Schedule May 14 2015

For Houston’s tournament schedul: AA Revised Schedule May 14 2015
