Council to revisit $70,000 Airport Cafe Proposal

There could be a new coffee shop at the Smithers airport by mid-summer.

Council heard a proposal for a new restaurant to take over for Bugwood Bean once their contract expires at the end fo June. However, this new contract would cost the Town of Smithers over $70,000 annually.

Council was torn between the cost and service of the cafe and have denied the proposal with the promise to revisit it

Deputy Mayor Gladys Atrill is on board with the Airport cafe and says that the expense covers more than just coffee.

“One way to look at that is $70,000 is wage, staffing, and product delivery, so things can always be cut a few different ways,” she says.

As it stands currently, there will be no cafe or food service at the airport as of July.

Council will revisit this issue on June 11th.
