Passengers injured in helicopter accident transported out of Terrace for treatment

Northern Escape Heli-Skiing and Skyline Helicopters have both released statements regarding the helicopter crash that occurred late Monday afternoon.

Terrace RCMP confirmed three helicopters were flying about 50 kilometres northwest of Terrace when communication was lost with one of the aircraft.

“Words cannot convey the profound grief we feel,” said Teri Northcott, President of Skyline Helicopters.

“We ask for respect for the privacy of those impacted during this incredibly challenging time. With that in mind, we will await any updates from the RCMP on those involved.”

Seven people were on the helicopter when it crashed, three passed away and the other four were transported to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace.

“Currently, two of those patients are considered to be in critical condition and two are in serious condition,” said Northern Escape Heli-Skiing owner John Forrest.

He added they have since been transported to other centres across the province to receive treatment.

“At the moment, the cause of the accident is unclear. We are working closely with the RCMP, Transport Safety Board, WorkSafeBC and other authorities to support the investigation into the cause of the incident,” said Forrest

Skyline Helicopters also confirmed they are working with the police in the investigation.
