Rio Tinto makes significant contribution to Foundry Burns Lake

Rio Tinto has donated $600,000 to Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) for the new Burns Lake Foundry centre.

According to CSFS, this donation will help with resources and operations, ensuring its ability to positively impact the lives of young people in the Burns Lake area.

“With such a big endeavour as building a centre from the ground up to meet the needs of youth in Burns Lake, partnerships such as the contribution by Rio Tinto are critical as we develop infrastructure to support our services in better serving the community and member First Nations,” says Chief of Cheslatta Carrier Nation and CSFS Board Member Corrina Leween.

“With Rio Tinto’s support, we are one step closer to the completion of the centre, which will help address the health and wellness needs of all young people aged 12 to 24 and their families in the Burns Lake area.”

Construction on the building began last October and is projected to open later this year.

“Rio Tinto is proud to support CSFS in their proactive approach to addressing mental health and providing essential support for young people in the Burns Lake community through the Foundry centre,” says Rio Tinto Atlantic Community and Social Performance General Manager Claudine Gagnon.

An appreciation BBQ is being held tomorrow (Friday) from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. outside Lakes District Secondary to celebrate the announcement.
