Real estate stats for first half of 2014

The newest stats from the Northern Real Estate Board show home sales are holding steady through much of the Bulkley/Nechako region.

The Smithers area has reported 134 sales so far in the first six months of 2014 compared to 124 by this time last year.

However Northern Real Estate Board president Ken Laursen says while the number of sales are up, the sale value is down slightly from last year.

“The average price per property has gone down but some of the things that could be affecting that are like, I see that there is a significant amount of vacant land that has sold and vacant land is generally less expensive.”

In Burns Lake so far 36 properties sold worth $4.2 million in total in the first six months compared to 31 with a value of $3.7 million at this time last year.

And he says things should stay about the same for the next year.

“We don’t anticipate any change at all. Just a slow and steady growth which is healthy for communities and the housing market.”
