Telkwa approved for water tower engineering grant

Archaeological work is starting today in Telkwa ahead of plans to build a water tower in the village.

The assessment will determine what First Nations artefacts might be in the area before choosing a location for the water tower.

Mayor Darcy Repen says a government grant is covering 83 per cent of the over $200,000 study including engineering work. That leaves the village on the hook for 17 per cent of the cost.

He says the plan is to finish the engineering work this summer and have the water tower built next summer.

However, Repen says they still need a 100 per cent funding commitment from the province.

“That’s what we need, that’s what we’re asking for – that’s what’s critical for sustaining a small community like Telkwa. We’re not looking for fluff, we’re not looking for shiny things – we just want the support for our water and sewer,” says Repen.
