Province launches survey about Lakes District forest plan

The province is looking for feedback from Lakes District residents on a new forest landscape plan and Land Use Objectives Regulation amendments.

The plan was originally announced in 2021 along side three other pilots after the 2018 wildfire season.

“This is a major step forward for the project, bringing us closer to a plan that protects communities, strengthens the local economy, and creates a healthier ecosystem,” said Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests.

Areas the plan would provide direction on include:

  • Cultural well-being
  • Landscape ecosystem health and resilience
  • Wildfire resilience
  • Aqatics, wetlands and riparian habitat
  • Wildlife Habitat
  • Visual quality
  • Range
  • Soil
  • Timber and harvesting levels

“This is an important chance for residents to have a say in the stewardship of public lands around their communities, and we welcome your input,” said Randene Neill, Minister of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship.

The survey follows a similar questionnaire that closed at the end of January this year.

More information about the project and the survey can be found here and will be open until July 31.
