A Draw the Line rally was held in downtown Smithers on Saturday alongside several others across the country.
The march started at the Smithers Courthouse, following Main Street to Rotary Park beside Subway with about 50 people attending.
“We’re here because we care about the future of our communities and this planet we call home,” said Organizer Sarah Newton.
According to Draw the Line’s website, the marches were held to demand justice for workers, Indigenous peoples, migrants, and the climate.
At the Smithers rally, the main focus was opposition against the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline and support for the land defenders in relation to the Costal Gas Link pipeline.
“We are the 99 per cent and I love the idea of that yet decisions are still being made to benefit the richest one per cent,” said Newton.
Several healthcare workers also took part in the event to talk about how liquid natural gas (LNG) impacts a person’s physical and mental health.
