Access Smithers is working to make the Perimeter Trail more accessible.
The group’s secretary Lorraine Doiron says it is a large expensive project, so they are going to start bit by bit.
“Right now we are looking at putting in two benches that are properly installed so people can sit and maybe there is cement on the sides so if you are in a wheelchair, you can pull up and park,” she says.
Their current focus is on the Willowvale Marsh area at Pacific and 19th Avenue. Access Smithers asked council for a letter of support at last night’s meeting so they can apply for more grants. Doiron is hoping this section will be finished in time to enjoy this summer.
