Smithers resident receives the Medal of Good Citizenship

A Smithers resident is being recognized for providing extraordinary community service.

The province announced today (Wednesday) Andrew Tom is one of the 21 people receiving the Medal of Good Citizenship for 2023.

“They have shown kindness and generosity while making sacrifices for the benefit of others. Their contributions serve as a reminder to all of what we can do in ways large and small to improve life for everyone,” said Premier David Eby.

This medal is the second most prestigious award by the province, just below the Order of British Columbia.

Tom holds several titles through the Smithers region including President of the Wilp Si’satxw House of Purification Society, Director for the Office of the Wet’suwet’en Society, Band Councillor for Witset First Nation and President of the Yikh Lhiw Dinle Housing Society among others.

He will be presented with his medal at a ceremony later this year.
