Steelheads handed an overtime loss on home ice

Wade Masch’s game-winner 30 seconds into overtime sent the Kitimat Ice Demons home in a happier mood clinching a 4-3 victory on Sunday against the Smithers Steelheads in Central Interior Hockey League action. 

Kitimat held a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to a goal from Brandon Maag. 

In the second period, Kodi Schwarz and Johnny Creswell brought the Steelheads back into the lead 2-1. 

Ian Chrystal scored a lone goal for Smithers in the third before Kitimat’s Ben Gillis potted a last-minute goal to even the score at three. 

Kitimat fell 12-3 to Hazelton earlier in the weekend. 

Steelheads hit the road this weekend as they play a double header against the Williams Lake Stampeders Saturday and Sunday.
