Savage Charity cook-off pits Smithereens against one another

A handful of townspeople will be raising money for a local charity by throwing down in the kitchen.

High Road Services Society will host “Oktober Chef,” a high-intensity cooking competition full of sabotages, twists, and surprise ingredients.

Inspired by shows like Cutthroat Kitchen and Chopped, High Road CEO Dana Gorbahn says viewers will have a great time while benefitting a local group.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he says, “it’s an opportunity to be able to bring awareness, and also be able to have some fun, and be able to raise some money for our charity.”

A sabotage can include things like cooking in handcuffs and chopping vegetables with an axe. The stakes are certainly high, but Gorbahn is showing no signs of nerves.

“Everybody does say, whenever I cook for them, they think that I’m one of the best cooks that they’ve ever seen.”

“IKitchen” helps people with disabilities work and create low-cost meals for residents.

“OktoberChef” will take place at IKitchen in Smithers on October 23rd. Admission is $10.
