Fire at Smithers/Telkwa Transfer Station

Telkwa firefighters responded to blaze in the village last night.

A fire was spotted in a Telkwa transfer station trailer around 10 pm Wednesday night.

Telkwa Fire Cheif Randy Cunningham isn’t sure who or what caused the fire at this time.

“At this point everything is under investigation. Until I get to meet with the regional district and their representative, it’s just an ongoing investigation,” he says.

Firefighters left the scene around 2 am.

The approximate cost of damages is still part of the investigation. The trailer and the transfer station interior have been damaged, the severity is still under investigation.
