Houston teen getting back into the pilots seat

Adam Franz from Houston is getting ready for bobsled training and competitions this winter with a fundraiser being held on Tuesday.

In mid August, Franz will be competing for the first time at the Canadian National Push Championships in Calgary.

“This would secure my place for the junior national team this year and I could be racing and representing Canada on the North American Cup circuit,” he said.

Along with competitions, Franz said he’s looking to attend six additional camps compared to last season, all focused on piloting.

He added travel and expenses for training and competing is expected to cost about $18,000.

The barbeque fundraiser is being held at Bulkley Valley Credit Union in Houston to help offset the costs.

“A lot of that will be really helpful for getting through the winter because my sliding season starts as early as October,” said Franz.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
