Smithers skatepark pump track set to open in August

A new pump track at the Smithers skatepark is near completion as part of phase four of its expansion project.

Construction started just under in June with more lighting, street section enhancements, and landscaping still coming up with the phase.

“The immediate next thing we’re really excited about as a skatepark society is we’re going to throw another grand opening event to kick off the pump track and celebrate the accomplishment of getting this thing done,” said spokesperson Jake Daly.

He added it will be held August 9 to 11 with skate nights and free skate camps.

Phase four is currently the final phase of the expansion, with its first concept plans being unveiled in 2016.

“Nothing like this happens because of one person or a couple people. It really takes the entire town to come behind and decide to do something like this,” said Daly.

“It’s almost hard to find someone that’s not connected to this project in one way or another in Smithers,” he added.

Phase three of the project was opened when Tony Hawk and other legendary skateboarders visited Smithers in May 2025.

Smithers council gave phase four of the project the green light in April.
