Residents to avoid Bulkley River, still Flooding

An indefinite Flood Watch is in effect for the Bulkley River.
The warmer weather has lead to quick snow melts in the mountains and now rising water levels.
Smithers Fire Chief Keith Stecko says it could be harmful to go anywhere near the water right now.
we want to make sure from a public safety standpoints, that people remain well aware and away from the river so they don’t get caught up and become dangerous to themselves.
River levels are expected to keep rising throughout the week as the nice weather continues.
Stecko says citizens in the most danger are those in the low-lying areas, such as the far end of main street.
The town will be begin lying out sand bags for residents who need them.
