Perimeter Trail talks “haven’t ended in an agreement”

Smithereens will have to wait a little longer before they can complete an afternoon walk around Perimeter trail again.

The Town of Smithers and Alpine Village Estates are butting heads over the chunk of trail that fell into Chicken Creek last spring.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the two have been in communication but have come up short on an agreement.

“We’ve had some conversations with them about reestablishing the trail and the town is certainly willing to pay the cost of construction to put the trail back into place. Unfortunately, those talks haven’t ended in an agreement,” he says.

Bachrach says the Town is willing to pay upwards of $40,000 to cover reconstruction fees to fix what that Alpine Estates storm sewer caused.

No one from the Alpine Village Estates was available for comment at this time.
