St. Joseph students to raise money for BC flood victims

Staff and students at St. Joseph’s Elementary School is raising money for victims of the BC floods that occurred last month.

Many of the main highways connecting to the Lower Mainland were closed due to mud and landslides.

On December 15, there will be a hockey shootout fundraiser where children can make small donations to shoot pucks for a chance to win small prizes.

Principal for St. Joseph’s Elementary School Hayden Drygas said the idea came from one of the grade 6 classes.

“They were in social studies thinking about helping others and they came up with this idea: a fun shootout fundraiser that will not only have kids enjoy but help raise money for those affected by floods and landslides in the lower mainland,” he said.

Drygas added that all of the proceeds will be distributed through red cross to those affected.

He also said he is feeling happy to see these initiatives occur.

“The work of our staff and students is incredible and inspiring and my heart is always full when such caring initiatives like this occur,” Drygas said.

He added that the shoot out is for staff and students only but if parents wish to donate they can drop off their donations at the schools office.
