Smithereens chance to voice view on Bylaw Amendment

A town bylaw amendment is now in the hands of Smithereens.

Council has agreed on the first two readings of the town zoning change, which would allow for 4-storey buildings in town.

Before anything can be put to action, there will be a full public hearing and Mayor Taylor Bachrach says everyone is invited.

“It’s your community. Let us know what you think.”

This bylaw amendment proposal comes after Council received a request from Prince George’s BG Group to build a 4-storey hotel behind Boston Pizza.

While some citizens are excited about new job opportunities and business growth, others are concerned about the town’s view scape and potential traffic issues.

A date for the public hearing is yet to be determined, but Bachrach says it will be “sooner rather than later.”
