Three people pass away following pair of collisions on northern highways

It was a deadly day on northern BC highways.

According to the North District RCMP, three people passed away in two separate crashes several hours apart yesterday (Monday).

One man died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 39, south of Mackenzie just after 6 am when the pickup truck he was driving made contact with a semi-unit.

The driver of the semi unit did not sustain any injuries.

In the other incident, two women were pronounced deceased, near Chetwynd on Highway 97 when the car they were in collided with a pickup truck at approximately 3:30 pm.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson spoke with Vista Radio.

“Both investigations are still ongoing causal factors are yet to be determined in both but certainly the roads were reported to be slippery and icy at the time of each collision.”

Saunderson also has a message for motorists if they choose to venture out.

“Be prepared for winter driving conditions. Both you and your vehicle – certainly have winter tires on and drive to the conditions of the road because the weather conditions can change instantly and you can find yourself in a predicament with the weather and not-so-good road conditions.”
