BC and Cheslatta address Flooding issues

The Provincial Government and the Cheslatta Carrier Nation are addressing flooding issues en route to reconciliation.

The Cheslatta Lake and River act as a 50-mile spillway between the Nechako Reservoir and River. For over 60 years, this area sees annual flooding which causes skeletal remains to be washed ashore.

Cheslatta Spokesperson Mike Robertson wants this reach a solution and quickly.

“We’re quite optimistic that we’ll get some solutions to this in short order,” he says.

The government is presenting the Nation with $400,000 for “short-term watershed restoration projects” in the area.
